Auction Storage and Pickup: Plan Around the Actual Release Window

Storage exposure begins when the purchase and pickup schedules do not line up. Check the auction’s current terms and the vehicle’s release status before relying on a carrier’s estimated collection day.

Record the actual deadlines

Ask the auction for payment, release, appointment and storage conditions applicable to this lot. Note time zone, opening hours and holiday closures. Do not copy a deadline from another auction or assume weekends are treated the same everywhere.

Arrange pickup after release is confirmed

Provide the carrier with accepted release instructions and current loading condition. Ask when collection can be confirmed and what happens if the vehicle is unavailable on arrival. Keep document blockers separate from capacity problems so the correct party can act.

Make the delay decision explicit

If pickup slips, confirm the current storage amount, next available slot and whether an alternative collection plan is feasible. Obtain approval before additional paid work. Retain written decisions with the shipment rather than assuming storage will be waived because a delay was inconvenient.
