Motorhome and Travel Trailer Shipping: A Preparation Checklist
A motorhome and a towable travel trailer need different handling plans. Describe the exact unit, its transport dimensions and its onboard systems before comparing offers. Check destination eligibility before purchase, then obtain operator acceptance before arranging collection.

Identify the unit and its handling needs
Record the VIN or other identification, ownership documents, actual dimensions, weight and transport condition. Include roof equipment, rear racks and the trailer coupling in the information pack. State whether a motorhome starts, steers and brakes. For a travel trailer, describe the hitch, tires, brakes and towing access. Ask who provides a suitable tow vehicle or terminal handling equipment. Quote requests should distinguish the vehicle itself from any additional support equipment.
Get a written preparation checklist
List installed gas, fuel, battery and water systems, plus any generator and loose equipment. Ask the operator which systems need isolation, emptying, certification or inspection, and who must perform that work. Obtain its allowed-content rules before packing possessions. Wallenius Wilhelmsen publishes specific motorhome requirements; other operators may use different instructions. Keep the approved inventory and preparation evidence with the booking. Resolve any rejection risk before paying to deliver the unit to port.
Plan destination use before shipment
Ask the destination authority or qualified local adviser about registration, inspections and any changes needed for road use or towing. Obtain a separate estimate for that work instead of assuming customs release makes the unit ready to drive. Confirm who collects it, whether it can leave the terminal under its own power, and what happens if it cannot. Compare offers using the same collection, handling and delivery scope. Send a shipping inquiry with the unit details and unresolved questions to establish the next step.
