Oversized Equipment Shipping: Gather the Measurements Before a Quote

Equipment transport starts with verified dimensions, weight and handling information. A model name or catalogue specification may not describe an assembled, modified or packed machine accurately enough to select equipment or a route.

Measure the shipment that will move

Record total height, width, length and weight with units. Identify attachments, overhangs, removable parts and any packing. State whether the equipment can move under its own power and whether safe loading points are documented. Do not assume removing a component is permitted without the owner’s and manufacturer’s relevant guidance.

Describe site access and lifting responsibilities

Provide collection and delivery access, available loading space and who supplies lifting equipment. Let qualified operators determine lifting and securing arrangements. For an international move, confirm acceptance at both origin and destination terminals before assuming the inland plan also works at the port.

Ask what remains conditional

Request confirmation of route feasibility, operator availability, any permit assessment, scope exclusions and validity. Requote when dimensions or configuration change. This checklist prepares an inquiry; it does not promise oversized service, permits or acceptance on an unconfirmed route.
