Vehicle Shipping to Nigeria: Build a Complete Cost Checklist
A shipping quote and a landed vehicle budget answer different questions. For a Nigeria shipment, separate moving the vehicle from the amounts required to clear, collect and use it after arrival. Compare estimates using the same vehicle, departure location and destination scope.

Separate the transport legs
Record inland pickup to the departure port, any loading or consolidation, ocean freight, unloading and the agreed destination handoff. Ask whether the quote ends at the Nigerian port or includes onward movement to the consignee. For a Lagos-area delivery, name the actual receiving location rather than treating the whole city as one interchangeable destination.
Ask for a separate destination assessment
Have the responsible destination professional confirm vehicle eligibility, valuation, applicable duties and charges, document requirements and collection arrangements using current Nigeria Customs guidance. Do not calculate these from an old auction article or assume the purchase invoice is the final customs value. Confirm who pays each destination amount and in which currency. This guide provides a budget structure, not a tariff determination.
Use a worksheet with an unknown column
Use one row per cost: purchase, auction fees, inland move, ocean move, insurance, destination services, duties/taxes, storage and final delivery. Mark each confirmed, estimated, excluded or unknown and identify its provider. If freight is confirmed but clearance is unknown, keep the total open. Resolve quote validity, exchange-rate assumptions and storage exposure before using the worksheet as a purchase budget.
