Canadian Auction Vehicle to the USA: Plan Admission Before Pickup
Buying through a Canadian Copart or IAA location does not establish that a vehicle can enter the United States for your intended use. Ask FleetX about the ground move once the ownership file, US admission questions and receiving location are defined.

Review the actual vehicle, not its sale location
Provide the VIN, manufacture date, certification labels, title history and condition to the US import specialist. EPA emissions and NHTSA safety requirements are separate reviews. EPA explains that a manufacturer compliance letter may be requested for certain Canadian vehicles; do not assume Canadian registration proves every US requirement has been met.
Align the origin and entry instructions
Confirm release readiness with the Canadian selling location and ask the origin specialist which export reporting applies to the transaction. Give FleetX the approved border plan, contact responsible for US entry and loading constraints. Keep the current instructions with the carrier; a proposed route change requires a reviewed document and receiving plan.
Separate entry from road registration
Agree the final delivery address and receiving equipment before collection. Ask the appropriate US specialist about any remaining inspection, modification or state registration steps. Keep those responsibilities outside the transport scope unless expressly included. If an inspection facility must receive the unit first, obtain its receiving instructions before assigning the ground endpoint.
Prepare separate US safety and emissions answers
Buying a vehicle in Canada does not establish its US import status. NHTSA provides the safety-import guidance and EPA addresses emissions. EPA’s Canadian-vehicle guidance asks importers to verify the vehicle’s relationship to a US-certified version; labels and manufacturer information matter. Keep the two reviews distinct when preparing a FleetX ground request.
| Review item | Evidence to prepare | Question or next action |
|---|---|---|
| Safety review | Certification information and the applicable NHTSA import path | Ask the import specialist which evidence and declarations fit this unit |
| Emissions review | Emissions label and any necessary manufacturer compliance information | Resolve the EPA question independently; a safety answer does not answer emissions |
| Entry and receiving | Accepted filing plan, responsible contact, destination and handling facts | Confirm what the carrier needs for the crossing and who can receive the vehicle |
Share the confirmed answers and remaining questions with FleetX before assigning the movement. State registration is another receiving-side question; do not use a proposed transport booking as proof that every import or registration requirement has been met.
